Understanding chiropractic

What is a Doctor of Chiropractic?

Doctors of Chiropractic are licensed, hands-on, drug-free health professionals who examine, diagnose, and treat conditions of the spine, joints, muscles, and nervous system.

They complete a nationally accredited four-year doctoral program overseen by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, pass national board exams, and are regulated by state licensing boards. Each year they also complete state-approved continuing education to keep their license current.

Beyond hands-on care, chiropractors prescribe therapeutic exercise and give nutrition and lifestyle guidance — so the work you do between visits supports the work that happens in the office.
